FORMAL INTRODUCTION
When introducing a newcomer to a group, the proper business etiquette is to introduce the newcomer to the whole group first, then take the newcomer to each person and introduce by name – remembering to name the person of greater rank or authority first and any relationship they may have with you.
INFORMAL SMALL GROUP INTRODUCTION
In most cases, a general introduction is acceptable etiquette. The greater rank or authority rule applies here as well.
For example:
- Introducing a prospective board member to the board you would say, “Board of Directors, may I present Jane Smith.
- When introducing a donor to the board you would say, “Jane Smith, I would like to introduce you to the board of directors.”
