Take Action

Excerpt from email written by Helen M. Alvare’ JD, Associate Professor of Law at George Mason University (VA)

While some religious employers have been given one year to comply, private employers everywhere are required to offer coverage for abortion-inducing drugs and contraception starting today.

To mark the occasion, HHS secretary Sebelius is holding a webcast TODAY, August 1, at 1:30 PM EST. In a recent email, she said, “To talk about these new benefits becoming available for women, the Department of Health and Human Services is teaming up with WebMD to take your questions on what this means for women and their families.

Please join HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Annic Jobin, WebMD’s Director of News and Partnerships for a live discussion…”

Let’s make sure Sebelius remembers today, when she is celebrating her new mandate, that thousands of women value their religious freedom more than free government services.

Head over to www.healthcare.gov/live to watch the conversation, and submit your questions at www.facebook.com/healthcaregov and on Twitter using #womenshealth.

Don’t forget to use our hashtag, #womenspeak2012!

Here are some questions to get you started:

  • How is the Administration working to address the concerns this mandate brings for women and families who value religion?
  • Why has the HHS refused to engage the enormous body of data showing a correlation between increased rates of unintended pregnancies and non-marital birhts, and government driven birth control programs?
  • How are you working to accommodate religious employers and private employers who conscientiously object to covering contraception, abortifacients, and sterilizations?
  • Why does the Administration continue to ignore what this mandate means for women and families who value religion?
